病
Time’s Confession (published in Japanese in 2010) is a dream diary containing ten dreams indicating that the adage “Time is Money” is a source of a modern “disease.” Although we use this phrase daily, we rarely stop to think about its actual meaning. Even though time itself is undeniably a big part of our lives, we neither know nor think much about it.
The dreams indicate that, not so long ago, time used to be sacred. Yet, once the idea of “time is money” took hold, time was damaged beyond repair. Money has polluted and disfigured the flow of time. Consequently, our communication, relationships, humanity, minds, and lives have become ruined. This is one of the most serious diseases of our times, deteriorating not only individuals, but also society as a whole. To make matters worse, we rarely notice that the disease has spread in pandemic proportions.
『じかんの告白（日本語では、2010年出版）』は、「時は金なり」という言葉が、現代の病の原因であることをほのめかす10の夢からなる、夢日記です。日々この「時は金なり」という言葉を、私たちはよく使いますが、本当の意味をほとんど考えようとはしません。私たちが生活していく上でとても重要な、時間それ自体でさえ、ほとんど何も知りませんし、考えもしません。
いくつかの夢は、それほど遠くない過去まで、時間は聖なるものだったと暗示します。しかし、「時は金なり」という考えが広まってから、時間は破壊されました。お金が時の流れを汚し、狂わせたのです。その結果、私たちのコミュニケーション、人間関係、人間性、心、人生もボロボロにされてしまいました。これは、私たちの時代の最も深刻な病気のうちの一つで、個々人だけでなく、社会全体もこの病気に冒されています。さらに悪いことに、この病気が爆発的に広がっていることに、私たちはほとんど気がついていません。
